New-build garden design is a specific challenge. Compacted clay subsoil, stripped topsoil, standard developer turf that fails within two seasons, no privacy on three sides, and no inherited character. We work with homeowners moving into new-builds across Yorkshire, and with developers commissioning at scale.
This page covers both audiences. Homeowner first, developer second. Or send us a brief and we will tell you which one fits.
The standard new-build garden in 2026 looks like this: a rectangle of turf, a fence on three sides, a couple of shrubs that may or may not survive their first winter, and compacted soil that nobody told you about.
Compacted soil. Developers strip the topsoil during construction. What is left is clay subsoil driven over for months.
Poor drainage. Particularly on clay-heavy estates around Leeds and Bradford.
Standard turf. Laid straight onto compacted base. Often fails within two seasons.
No privacy. Overlooking from neighbours on all sides.
Hard angular boundaries. Fencing on three sides and no softening.
No character. Nothing inherited, nothing established, no story.

We have designed gardens for new-build owners in Killinghall, Knaresborough, Whinney Close and other Harrogate estates. We solve the soil first, then build the garden you actually want.
1. Soil assessment at the first visit. We probe, dig, drainage-test where needed.
2. Wellbeing brief. How you want to use the garden, time you have, children, dogs.
3. Concept and mood board. The design intent before any drawings.
4. Full design. 2D layout, then (Gold) 3D walkthrough and construction drawings.
5. Build and planting. Optional project oversight so the soil work happens before the planting goes in.
6. Year-one check-in. Six and twelve months in.
Silver design from £1,750. Gold from £2,750. Typical new-build builds sit in the £15,000 to £45,000 range.
“Our bland new build plot is now transformed to a wonderful space that absolutely has the wow factor.” Caroline, Whinney Close, Harrogate
A well-designed garden is one of the quietest sales accelerators a housebuilder has. Buyers walk through the kitchen, glance at the bathroom and then look at the garden. If it is an unloved rectangle of turf, the show home loses energy at exactly the wrong moment.
Show garden plot design. Full design of show garden plots, with 3D walkthrough renders and short videos for sales suites and brochures.
Plot-typology design at scale. Garden options designed for repeating plot shapes across an estate, with site-specific adjustments built in. Reduces cost per plot compared to commissioning fresh design for every plot.
Soil and drainage specifications written into the build, not retrofitted by the buyer.
Buyer handover packs: a one-page guide to the planting and a year-one care note.
Biophilic options that support biodiversity net gain and Section 106 commitments.

“It was such a pleasure working with Lisa. She has a keen eye for landscape design and her knowledge, expertise and raw talent are amazing. Our new-build plot is now a garden we actually use.”

Yes. We work across North and West Yorkshire as standard, including Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, York, Knaresborough, Ilkley and Wetherby. We take on selective projects further afield.
Sooner than you think. The best time to start is before you have laid down anything you might want to undo. Designing in the first three months gives the best result.
Almost always. Developer-laid topsoil is thinner and more compacted than it looks. Our process includes a soil probe at the brief stage. Yorkshire clay needs particular attention.
Show garden design is quoted individually depending on plot size and brochure ambition. For most developers it is a five-figure investment that recoups itself many times over in faster off-plan sales.
Yes. Our Gold design package includes 3D walkthrough visuals which are usually brochure-ready. For developers we can supply additional renders, day and dusk variants, and walkthrough videos.
