Tranquil new-build retreat in Silsden

August 5, 2026

Like many new build plots, Julie and Tony’s garden arrived as a disjointed space, dominated by awkward steps and a sprawling, functionless lawn. Newly retired, the couple longed to replace the sterile turf with a peaceful, well-being-focused sanctuary tailored for their next chapter.

Effortless Flow & Functional Zones

Drawing on our design-for-wellbeing expertise, we erased the split-level disconnect by replacing the original steps with wide, inviting stairways. A detailed cobble-paved path now guides movement through three distinct, purposeful zones:

  • The Social & Reading Retreat: A secluded, tranquil area designed for quiet afternoons with a book or relaxing with friends.

  • The Lounge Zone: A dedicated nook crafted specifically to frame their beloved hanging egg chair.

  • Discreet Storage: Seamlessly integrated to handle practical garden needs without disrupting the peaceful aesthetic.

Layered Nature & Softness

To soften the new build structure and instil immediate calm, we introduced multi-stem trees which bring dappled light, privacy, and architectural height. Paired with tactile, sensory planting, the space has been transformed from an empty plot into a restorative, nature-filled haven.

The Verdict

By rethinking the level changes and zoning for true functionality, we transformed a featureless new build garden into a peaceful sanctuary. Julie and Tony now have a private, seamlessly connected outdoor retreat to enjoy throughout their retirement.
